Imaginary feature : Movie scenes integrated in Google Maps
We all have strong connection with our favorite movies. It explains the growing trend among travelers to seek their favorites movie scenes location.
For fun, let’s create a feature that would allow users to see movie scenes when they are on Google Maps.
Being exactly where your favorite actor were standing before you can be something super powerful for fans. The location play a big part in a movie, especially in emblematic cities (New York, Chicago or many others).
If you can go to the exact spot action happened it can be a very special moment that allow you to dive in the movie:
Before exploring more the feature in itself let’s see if another initiative like this already existed. Arte actually launched a similar initiative in Paris a few years ago but it didn’t last, presumably because it represent a lot of content to create and update https://www.konbini.com/fr/cinema/cinemacity-paris-cinema-application/
In order to define better the feature I needed ideation. I asked 2 friends to help me and we started drawing and writing ideas. Here are the 4 main items I kept to be part of the feature :
To sum up the features :
- see movie scenes around me
- see the main info in order to filter (actor, type, year)
- augmented reality animation on the spot of the movie scene
- be able to play the movie extract
And voilà, here is how the result look like :
As you can see you are able to see the movie scenes around you and have a glimpse of info thanks to the cards on the bottom of the screen.
This is a bigger card with more info about the movie AND on the specific scene you can see next to you. You can also see if augmented reality is available and scroll to discover the picture of the specific spot you have to find in order to launch the AR animation and the extract of the movie scene.
To illustrate better the feature, a quick animated prototype :
So, would YOU like to have this feature in Google Maps? :)
